Public Funding Bill Introduced

Submitted by John Rauh on March 22, 2007 - 3:02pm.

It has been an exciting week! We recently announced our support for legislation that would introduce voluntary public funding for Senate races.

The legislation, known as the Fair Elections Now Act (S.936), would create a voluntary system through which participating candidates -- those who establish their credibility by collecting enough qualifying contributions and who then pledge not to accept private contributions -- would receive public funds for primary and general elections. Participants would also be eligible for free media vouchers and discounted commercial advertising rates.

The bipartisan bill was introduced by U.S. Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Arlen Specter (R-PA). We are honored to have been involved in getting this legislation drafted. Let's keep the pressure on Congress for them to act. Click here (http://www.just6dollars.org/action) to take action.

The Fair Elections Now Act is also generating a lot of buzz around the blogosphere!
