Organizer's Toolkit
How-to: Help Spread the Just $6 message
The following is a list of online resources that can help you to organize local events. We need your help to make public funding of elections an issue that candidates are talking about. Informing the public is the first step. Please let us know if you have any questions, need any materials, or would like to arrange a speaking engagement.
Organize Like-Minded Individuals
Meetup – http://www.meetup.com
Meetup.org is renowned for connecting people with similar passions and causes to help them form “lasting, influential, local community groups that regularly meet face-to-face.” Use this site to help organize individuals in your area who are also interested in campaign reform. Some cities have preexisting election reform Meetups – if you don’t have time to organize the group, try joining one of these!Care2 – http://www.care2.com
Over 6 million members of Care2 rally around special causes and are another excellent resource for local organizing. Groups such as Electoral Reform share similar goals and have recruited significant numbers of members.Yahoo! Groups is another active online community of groups that often meet offline as well. This is another great place to organize and discuss with individuals who are also interested in public financing of elections. You could join an existing group or start a new one to support your specific goals.
Google Groups is also an active online community. Like Yahoo!, a simple search of related keywords will turn up a significant number of people already discussing the ideas and proposals you would like to recruit them to take action.
Promote Your Event
Evite – http://www.evite.com
Evite.com is an online tool that offers public event promotions (online invitations and promotion). Users can browse public events near them, and if your event is amongst the most popular or most emailed (tell your friends to spread the word!) it will show up more prominently.Upcoming.org – http://www.upcoming.org
Upcoming is a social event calendar built around sharing and tagging events. It's also very easy to use.
